There have been a lot of theories put forward to try and explain the origin of the earth and the other planets in the solar system. Some have stated that the solar system came from a burned out star, others state that it was as a result of high speed particles cooling down to form solids. Amongst the many theories put forward, one of the most popular ones is the big bang theory. As with all theories that scientists have come up with, there has to be evidence supporting them.
The big bang theory basically means that small particles collided with each other causing a subsequent expansion. This expansion is then said to have gone ahead to form the solar system and its planets and numerous other stars. This is a very likely theory because of the amount of evidence that exists that supports it. For instance, scientists do believe that even today, the universe is still expanding outwards.
There have been religious astronomers who have claimed that it is possible that the big bang does correlate with what the Bible states i.e. first there was light, then came the heavens and eventually earth.
The big bang theory is a very misconceived one. This theory is meant to explain how the universe expanded after it was formed, but it is not meant to explain how it was formed. The universe is said to have been in a dense state at first, before it grew outwards at an increasing speed. This theory doesn’t explain what is there beyond the universe nor where the universe came from at first.
One other misconception is that because of its name, the big bang, a lot of scientists and people alike think that there was a big explosion. As stated, the big bang is a theory that explains how the universe expanded. The expansion is said to have happened faster than the speed of light but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it was in the same way as an explosion.
There has often been an issue when it comes to bringing the big bang theory to a close. This is because it has a variety of concepts that are more than likely to challenge what many people believe in.
Albert Einstein was one of the scientists who did not believe that he universe could contract or expand. He had hopes that his theory of general relativity would help in proving that the universe was static. Through his calculations however, he was shocked to find that his results proved that the universe does in fact expand and contract. He tried all means to explain away this theory and even included a cosmological constant. This number if added to his relativity equation would remove the necessity for the universe to expand or contract.
Einstein then had to admit that he had been wrong to think that the universe was static. With his findings and those of Hubble, it could be seen that even currently, the universe still expands and contracts.
